Blood War Uniforms
Overview
• Clothing/armor models for Neverwinter Nights 1 • Three basic sets —heavy, medium, and light— at 1,881, 1,338, and 1,146 triangles respectively • 72 variations across all three sets • Three 512x512 color maps and a handful of smaller color maps (helmet, shoulders) • Completed, but unreleasedIn our Survivor premium module, the player character and his comrades were unlucky conscripts in the Baatezu armies of the Blood War. Being soldiers, we felt it would make sense to come up with a uniform. The design and concept came from the mind of Jim "Sporeboy" Adams and our art lead, Andy Nesbit. The result is something very cool and evocative of the pike and musket era of warfare.
Being that they were equippable pieces of clothing, we needed variants for every single potential player race combination. With 3 types of armor (light, medium, and heavy), 6 race models, 2 sexes, and 2 "phenotypes" (standard build and fat build), this added up to 72 different models I had to produce. Luckily, I had access to a program that would automatically produce resized and re-proportioned variants. While it was an invaluable time-saver, I found that I did need to go back and manually retouch the results.
Here are shots of the textures, which I was very pleased with. Their final, in-game states were in dds format, at 512x512. These shots are in color as well, though in-game, they were stripped of color to make use of Neverwinter Nights' palette-based tinting system.
